This Black Gold is another excellent & affordable black tea from Yunnan Province. It is composed entirely of hand
picked Spring 2009 materials. Whole juicy new growth tea leaves & gold buds from tea plantations in Xishuangbanna in the far south of Yunnan Province were used to make this
tea, giving it a lovely black & gold appearance.
The
flavor of this tea is typical of a Dian Hong Black tea, in that it is
malty, floral, and mildly sweet. It is a bit more bold & astringent than our other black teas, but its assertiveness makes it a great morning eye-opener. The steeped liquor is also crystal clear, an attribute that makes it a perfect chioce for serving iced.
About Dian Hong Teas:
Dian Hong translates literally as 'Yunnan Red.' Dian is another name for Yunnan Province, named for the Bronze Age Dian Kingdom that was later incorporated into the Han Empire. In China, what we refer to as 'black' tea is called 'red' tea because the infused liquor is a reddish brown color.
