These huge 2 KG bricks are composed of Fall harvest, 2005 large leaf material from Yun Xian (Yun County) in Western Yunnan's Lincang prefecture. Yun Xian is just East of Yong De county and Southeast of Fengqing county. The leaves were fermented in late 2005 and compressed in mid 2006 at a small Yun Xian tea factory, where they were stored until they were brought to market in Kunming in early 2010.
Large leaf teas are often referred to as "Zao Xiang Ye," which literally
translates as "Date Fragrance Leaf," a term I find very interesting. These It is no secret that I have an affinity for Lincang area ripe teas because of their mellow & sweet drinkability, and I jumped at the chance to get some of these bricks for the site after I tasted them.
This tea has aged nicely into a very pleasant tea for everyday type drinking, having lost almost all of its musty fermentation flavor through the aging process. The flavor of the infused liquor is peaty-sweet, with a mildly sweet & earthy aftertaste. When steeped, it brews a dark reddish brown liquor with a mouthfeel that is not thick, especially when compared to smaller leaf Pu-Erh, making it a very easy and pleasant tea to drink. I have found it very difficult to over-infuse this tea.
To steep this tea, I recommend using about 5 grams of leaf per 100 ml of water. Use water at a boil, rinse at least once for 15 sec, and start with a 10-15 second first steep.
Note: A 100 gram portion of these bricks is available as the "sample size" for a $5 charge.
